Premises to Match World-class Aspirations: 1997–2005

Abstract

At his first meeting with the Business School Council in the session 1997/98, Leslie Hannah said that he had encountered no major problem except for the deficit of the Management Development Centre. He intended continuing the strategy of David Kaye, and his thoughts were the subject of a favourable article on the School in the FT of 20 October 1997. He was confident that London could imitate New York with its two top business schools — Columbia and Stern. In the case of London it would be LBS and City University Business School. Fundraising for relocating the School was critical, but he was aware of the need for a lot more ‘friend raising’ before launching into fund raising, and this meant developing contacts with alumni. Co-ordinated advertising for appointments in different departments was used in order to sharpen up the public image of the School — for example the ‘City Experts’ advertisement and web site.
