Thinking about the Future

Abstract

Scenarios are a tool to meet the challenges of future, how an organization will be affected, and what it should do.1 The purpose of creating scenarios is to prevent negative turning points, encourage positive ones, and make adjustments to the extent that they are possible. For example, in 1985 Intel faced a situation when its main product, dynamic random access memory (DRAMs), had become a commodity. As a result, it made a monumental shift to microprocessors, which since then has defined its destiny.
