Abstract

This case describes the evolution and operations of MAST East Africa Limited. It describes how change, brought about by liberalization, affected the company significantly. Liberalization increased competition in the market and forced the company to address the issue of change management. This case demonstrates how MAST managed change. The key learning objectives of the case are to (1) understand the key issues in change management; (2) demonstrate the importance of developing a strategy that will allow a firm to survive and continue to grow in a dynamic and hostile environment; (3) learn how to institutionalize change management; (4) give the readers an opportunity to conduct a Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats analysis; and (5) learn how MAST actually managed change and learnt from the experience.
