Abstract

Orion opened for business in December 1970. In the three years that had passed since the initial discussions between David Rockefeller and Earle McLaughlin, the post-war international financial system had become more fragile and was about to become much more volatile. The Euromarkets had grown and were continuing to grow rapidly — in 1969 and 1970 the size of the Eurocurrency market increased by about 50 per cent each year — but the increasing instability brought hazards as well as opportunities.
