Abstract

Karim Rashid, a leading designer known worldwide for contemporary design of brightly colored plastic products, has radically changed the aesthetics of product design. Born in Cairo, he studied in Ottowa, Canada, and Milan, Italy, and is now living and working in New York. The over 2,000 objects he has designed include furniture, watches, dinnerware and a wide range of everyday accessories. His work is in the permanent collections of fourteen museums, including the Museums of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco. His experience extends to architecture and interiors, such as the Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia and the Semiramis Hotel in Athens. He is the recipient of numerous awards, among them the 2006 Pratt Institute Legend Award.
