Technology Transfer in Asia in Transition: Case Studies of Japanese Companies

Abstract

This chapter focuses on recent technological developments in East Asian countries, with particular attention to technology transfer from Japan. In particular the chapter argues that human-embodied technology transfer has played a critical role in technological accumulation in modern Japan, as it has in the Asian region as a whole. In this respect, technology transfer systems that emphasise the OJT (on the job training) for workers and engineers in overseas units and home factories seem to have been effective.
