Abstract

In the West, when we talk about the corporate culture and the problems of breaking through the glass ceiling, we can often forget that within other cultures of the world women can and do face very different problems in business. Banging your head against the glass ceiling would probably be welcomed in some cultures, where women have yet to even get a foot on the first rung of the career ladder. In countries like Pakistan, India or Kosovo, women probably have more of a fight on their hands simply to step outside the front door unaccompanied every day. In this chapter we’ll look at some of the problems women face in trying to establish themselves in business in other cultures around the world and the women that have succeeded on the political stage.
