Abstract

This study was inspired by the minimal representation of small firms in the literature about technological capability acquisition. It was suggested in Chapter 1 that the neglect of small firms may have something to do with a belief that the acquisition of technological capability in small firms is not important for achieving sustained economic growth and for solving the poverty problem, or that it could have emanated from the assumption that the phenomenon simply does not occur and so there is nothing worthwhile to investigate. This study has shown that neither of these two implicit assumptions is valid, and it has made a contribution towards redressing the gap in the literature.
