Abstract

The subject of gender could be described as sitting in ‘no man’s land’. While such a suggestion affords gender an interdisciplinary approach, it also raises the well-founded idea that gender is simply about women. For some people the mere mention of gender sends them running for the hills, fearful that feminism is in hot pursuit. For others, working to increase the awareness and resolution of gender inequalities is often seemingly best achieved by limiting references to gender. The widespread energy afforded to keeping gender and feminism in a box continues to be both amazing and perplexing. In this book one of my central aims is to bring gender out of the shadows and into mainstream discussions in relation to management, competition and wider aspects of society.
