Abstract

In the last chapter, the main attractions of China to foreign investors in the context of the contemporary world economy were examined. This chapter identifies the key steps of China’s opening up to foreign investment since 1978. The central focus of this chapter is on the evolution of FDI related policies (regulations and laws) and their underlying causes in the context of China’s political and economic reform. Understanding how FDI related policies have evolved to their current state is essential to assess the quality of China’s foreign investment environment.
