Abstract

Many applications needing to store large objects in relational DBMSs — for instance, for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) — have been handicapped by limitations and poor performance on the transactional and database side. Object-oriented approaches can help obviate these problems.
