Abstract

Many managers‘ jobs have changed, and are changing, radically. So are managers’ careers and working life. Chapter 10 examines the changes, and considers the implications for individual managers. It is harder to be a manager than it used to be, but it can also be more rewarding. It is harder because the changes already described in Part III have made - and are making - the job more complex and more demanding. Many managers’ jobs now carry much greater responsibility; there is also greater accountability and sharper and faster performance appraisal.
