Abstract

In the so-called ‘new’ working life, employees are supposed to be involved in their work and to take responsibility for the results. But at the same time, resources are being reduced within these lean organizations to such an extent that they could rightly be called anorexic. Often, employees have to try to get the resources they need to be able to do their work facing obstacles raised by managers. It has turned out that the employees who are most successful in securing such resources, after having failed once — that is being denied them by a manager — are those who simply keep at it and try again. It pays to nag. It is also the most experienced employees who make that technique to work efficiently. Less experienced employees try to go over their immediate manager’s head, but that is a much less successful way, and then they usually give up.
