The Growing Risk of Climate Change: Implications and Strategies for Asian Companies and Economies

Abstract

Mankind has historically had a voracious appetite for resources, brought on by the Industrial Revolution and ongoing civilization. Every year, there is an Ecological Debt Day or Overshoot Day, which measures the point at which the consumption of resources exceeds the ability of the planet to replace them. From this day on (in 2009 it was 25 September) until the end of the year, humanity will be in ecological overshoot, building up ever greater ecological debt. What is alarming is that it gets earlier every year.
