Abstract

This chapter addresses the issue of business responsibilities for human rights as an emerging topic of legal relevance in Latin America with the purpose of identifying relevant hints for an analysis of how to proceed after the Report of the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) on Human Rights and Business in Latin America. In this regard, this chapter is based on the analysis of specific measures adopted in some Latin American countries which have an impact on the sphere of business and human rights and also on the analysis of relevant decisions and jurisprudence of the Inter-American Human Rights organs. The author deems it appropriate to identify the achievements and challenges faced in Latin America in the sphere of business and human rights at the national and regional level as a tool for elaborating a foundation for subsequent debate at the international and national forums in order to support the implementation of the three core principles of the policy framework in the agenda of the SRSG on business and human rights.
