Abstract

Perhaps the most fortunate aspect of governmental post-war policies towards the UK motorsport industry is that they have consistently displayed the kind of benign indifference under which this individual business has prospered. However, this cynical view must be modified as Britain comes under increasing overseas pressure in a business of such precious potential, one that governments will not be able to ignore for its profitable and technological value in the next Millennium. Meanwhile, a few home truths about Britain’s manufacturing performance in recent years may surprise readers more used to receiving information with plenty of all-party political spin included.
