Abstract

The focus of this last chapter is to give a comparative overview and derive the major conclusions from the book. The first section summarizes the empirical findings of the comparison between the policies of food MNEs Nestlé, Unilever, and InBev in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Romania. It highlights the impact of EU integration on MNEs’ strategies in Hungary and the Czech Republic. The second section returns to the theoretical framework of the book in order to link the conclusions of the book to the literature on MNEs and economic development. This section places the food industry within the broader context of other industries, thus showing that MNEs in many sectors go through major reorganizations and restructurings in Europe, and how it is very challenging to embed them in a particular economy.
