Abstract

We are constantly bombarded with reports about pollution, climate change, the imminent production peak for oil and other pressing issues that demand us to develop new technologies, products and services, business practices and lifestyles. It is becoming increasingly clear that a substantial share of the climate change that we can observe has been caused by human activities. It is also now clear that an increased focus on sustainability will open up substantial business opportunities for the companies that take part in the change and develop the technologies, products and services that will be needed in order to facilitate a transformation to sustainable energy systems. We have also been informed by the scientifi c community that the alternative to major change may be further large-scale changes in the climate, which may alter the possibilities for life on this planet for the longer term.
