Abstract

Economic growth and structural change in Spain have so far been analysed mainly through the traditional growth concentration/diffusion model. Economic development would have, according to this model, taken the form of urban-based industrial growth, led by big enterprises. Rural areas would have taken part in the industrialisation process only because of industrial diffusion from metropolitan areas.
