Abstract

Technological development and new digital opportunities pave the way for new and emerging forms of entrepreneurship. However, digital entrepreneurship and digital entrepreneurial processes have scarcely been studied. This chapter focuses on entrepreneurship taking place via social media by exploring blogging and the entrepreneurial process of bloggers based on a netnographic analysis of four Polish bloggers and their blogs. Our findings suggest that the entrepreneurial process of bloggers consists of three phases: legitimisation; monetisation; and professionalisation. This study contributes to the existing literature on the entrepreneurial process, particularly that of bloggers. Furthermore, the study makes a methodological contribution, as netnography has not been widely used in entrepreneurship research thus far. The study also has practical implications for educators, for example, as it demonstrates how it is possible to transform a passion or hobby into entrepreneurial activity on social media and to gain a livelihood thereof. Our study suggests that social media and related opportunities, earning modes, and entrepreneurial processes develop rapidly and thus represent compelling avenues for future research.
