Abstract

This chapter delves into existing literature revealing contrasting perspectives on how antitrust measures influence FDI. After discussing the dispute over the influence of antitrust policy on inward FDI, it identifies recent economic and policy trends that underscore the importance of proactively attracting FDI to counter potential global economic decline and instability. The chapter advocates for reforms in antitrust frameworks and policies, emphasizing their potential to enhance FDI intensity and promote equitable distribution across countries. The chapter focuses on crucial aspects such as the role of antitrust authority and law enforcement, the coordination of antitrust policies with other national regulatory measures, and the interaction between antitrust policies and national and international economic strategies. The chapter’s conclusions include insights into the interplay between antitrust policies and international business strategies, which are further explored in other chapters of the Handbook.
