Abstract

This chapter focuses on managing job interview failure and success in academia. It highlights the inevitability of rejection in job applications and provides strategies for dealing with rejection, including contacting the selection committee and seeking feedback. The chapter also discusses the process of negotiating a job offer, emphasizing the importance of evaluating the offer, conducting follow-up visits and negotiating favourable conditions. It provides insights into various employment conditions and benefits that can be considered and negotiated, such as salary, tenure and promotion arrangements, teaching expectations, service roles, rules on outside work, administrative support, research funding, professional subscriptions and personal benefits.
