Abstract

To ensure effectively tackling climate crises, it is important for firms to ensure reduction of emissions and respect of human rights at Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers. Effectively monitoring, measuring or even changing behaviors of independent firms, located in different countries, to cascade more sustainable practices is however quite complex. Leveraging from vast evidence collected within the Global Value Chain literature, this chapter elaborates on what are the challenges for managers interested to ensure effective improvements upstream; list what are practices that can be implemented, suggests postures to ensure overcome the risks of means-ends decoupling.
