Abstract

Recent research has shown good governance can lead to better decision-making on projects and that in turn leads to better project performance. The link is because good governance empowers competent people to make decisions. Four behavioral constructs are identified, and the literature reviewed to explore how they link governance and decision-making to improved project performance. Twelve project management professionals were interviewed about 24 decisions they had made on projects, and six case studies were investigated, and it was shown that good governance empowers competent people to make decisions, so good governance leads to better decision-making and hence to improved project performance.
