Abstract

There are several sports celebrities and more specifically soccer players who contracted COVID-19. Fame, prestige, and even an athletic body have not prevented many successful athletes around the world from being infected. To understand how they managed and still manage their status of celebrity during the contagion, keeping consistent typical elements of this status, this study investigated the presence on social media of three Serie A soccer players, with a media content analysis of their Instagram profile. In particular, four dimensions (i.e., illness, language, and reflexivity; body image; lifestyle and consumption; and relations) were defined to help with the reading of the manifestation of the illness, in a public way on social media.
