Introduction to Small Firms and U.S. Technology Policy

Abstract

This is the introductory chapter to the book. While much has been written about the SBIR program from both an institutional perspective and a policy perspective, there remains a void of general information about the firms and research projects that are funded through the SBIR program. This book provides a multi-dimensional, descriptive picture of such firms and their projects to help the reader appreciate what is referred to as the social benefits of the program.
