Abstract

Targeted policy engagement events are opportunities for researchers and policy actors to come together in both in-person and virtual spaces to influence the design, implementation, and evaluation of policy. This chapter details some of the common features of targeted policy engagement events from the perspective of an academic knowledge broker in a university using two case studies; one detailing an in-person, day-long workshop and the other detailing a virtual policy discussion series. In each case the chapter discusses the nature and value of formal and informal partnerships, project planning considerations, building a network of participants, event design and event inclusion. Learning from both events is brought together to consider the challenges knowledge brokers may face in the engagement process and some characteristics that can make these events successful.
