Abstract

Nutrition assessments are designed to provide timely and high-quality evidence-based information for evaluating food and nutrition security interventions. Access to diet and nutrition-related information is crucial in guiding decision makers to achieve better nutrition and health for all. This chapter analyses the approaches to assess malnutrition and its impacts to food security. Quantitative and qualitative approaches to understand the nutritional status of individuals and households are examined, indicating their merits and demerits. The chapter also covers the criteria to consider when to select the nutrition assessment approach in specific contexts and situations.
