Abstract

Entitled the Ananya Initiative, a grant given by The Gates Foundation to Bihar, India worth $100 million would fund a range of complementary pilot projects from 2010 to 2015 in 8 select districts with the aim of improving health services and shaping health demands in Bihar. Parivartan is a grant project as part of Ananya which focuses primarily on fostering community mobilization and social accountability. It aims to provide a platform of empowerment for women in the pilot districts to catalyze support networks, and enable behavioral shifts to reach health and sustainable health outcomes. The project's background, strategies, roles played by nonprofit and governmental collaborators, and impacts are covered in this chapter.
