Abstract

The pandemic has been characterised by unconventional monetary and fiscal Policies, in particular persistent low interest rates and quantitative easing. This chapter first discusses monetary and fiscal policies with near zero interest rates. It then analyses some problems with unconventional monetary and fiscal policy and optimal mix of monetary and fiscal policies. It then elaborates on the taxonomy of macroeconomic policies and on monetary and fiscal policies under extreme conditions. It finally discusses the move toward normalisation.
