Abstract

Der mit der Gründung der Europäischen Gemeinschaft für Kohle und Stahl (EGKS) einsetzende europäische Einigungsprozess ist mitnichten als ein von zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteuren weitgehend abgekoppeltes Projekt politischer Eliten zu interpretieren, sondern wurde von den nicht kommunistischen Gewerkschaften der ursprünglich sechs Staaten der EGKS bzw. der Europäischen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft mitinitiiert und von Beginn an intensiv begleitet und gefördert.Der Band bietet erstmals eine zusammenfassende Darstellung der europapolitischen Vorstellungen der Gewerkschaften in den sechs Gründungsstaaten bis zur ersten Erweiterungsrunde 1973 und arbeitet ihre ideellen und erfahrungsgeschichtlichen Grundlagen heraus.
