Abstract

Die COVID-19-Pandemie und die zu ihrer Eindämmung gesetzten Maßnahmen führten die Wiener Stadtwirtschaft in eine schwere Rezession: Im 1. Halbjahr 2020 brach die reale Bruttowertschöpfung um 6,9% ein. Im gesamten Jahr 2020 dürfte die regionale Wirtschaftsleistung, dank Rebound-Effekten im Sommer und trotz erneuter Einschränkungen zu Jahresende, gegenüber 2019 um 6,2% gesunken sein. Der Rückgang ist in Wien damit spürbar geringer als im gesamten Bundesgebiet (–6,7%), was aber nicht zuletzt auf Sondereffekte zurückzuführen ist und sich in der Beschäftigungsentwicklung kaum niederschlägt. Die Arbeitslosenquote wird daher 2020 in Wien einen neuen Höchstwert erreichen. Für 2021 erwartet das WIFO auch für Wien eine Erholung, die wegen des neuerlichen Lockdown im I. Quartal jedoch schwach ausfallen dürfte: Die regionale Wertschöpfung dürfte 2021 – vom niedrigen Vorjahresniveau ausgehend – um etwas über +2% zunehmen; dieses Wachstum wird aber nicht ausreichen, um die wirtschaftlichen Einbußen und den Beschäftigungsrückgang des Jahres 2020 wettzumachen.
