Die neue Rolle Österreichs im Ost-West-Handel

Abstract

Der österreichische Osthandel wuchs in den vergangenen 20 Jahren – infolge der Schwäche der östlichen Märkte – nur unterdurchschnittlich. Verschiedene Vergleiche zeigen aber einen beträchtlichen Spielraum für eine Ausweitung des gegenseitigen Warenaustausches, die vor allem von den Fortschritten des Transformationsprozesses im Osten sowie von den künftigen Exporterfolgen Osteuropas abhängen wird. Österreichische Unternehmen rangieren heute in bezug auf ausländische Direktinvestitionen in Ost–Mitteleuropa im Spitzenfeld. Der Aufbruch im Osten hat Österreichs Position grundlegend verändert. Aus einer geographischen Randlage rückt Österreich ins Zentrum eines entstehenden Wirtschaftsraumes. Dank seiner hohen Standortqualität könnte Österreich die führende Kraft einer Wirtschaftsregion in Mitteleuropa werden, die etwa Gebiete vor allem im Süden der CSFR, den Ballungsraum von Preßburg, Nordwest-Ungarn und den Ballungsraum von Budapest erfaßt.
