Deregulation of the Financial Sector in Developed Countries: Some Lessons for the SEACEN Countries

Abstract

A review of some of the circumstances leading to financial deregulation in several developed countries, namely the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom is provided in this study. The experiences of some Latin American countries are also reviewed, particularly in the deregulation of interest rates.
