Abstract

In our relationship to various ecosystems, we need effective means of both measuring their qualities and managing their phenomena; this book offers new perspectives on both. In terms of measurement, chapters cover transpiration measurements over vegetated surfaces for assessing the effects of gaseous pollutants on plants, while another deploys stomatal conductance modelling in estimating evapotranspiration. The book presents various case studies in the Alps. Topics covered here include management strategies in relation to the Manfred Project, and the effects of ozone fluxes on a larch forest ecosystem. Other aspects of research in this area are addressed in chapters on a new webGIS platform for understanding extreme events, and the description of case study areas in order to develop management strategies.
