Abstract

Multivariate modelling is a branch of statistics that can encompass more than one variable. It is, therefore, extremely useful in the analysis of complex systems in industry. The first chapter in this volume uses the technique to evaluate the quality of different fuels in the oil industry, while another outlines the contribution that multivariate statistics make to the oil and gas industry. Multivariate analysis is deployed in an chapter tackling the problem of environmental damage caused by industry, by applying the principles of chemical oxidation to the treatment of wastewater. Finally, a new means of treating contaminated water using the Taguchi method is presented, demonstrating the potentialities of such mathematical tools for tackling key environmental problems.
