Abstract

Las lecturas que se compilan en este libro intentan hacer un aporte al desarrollo de la capacidad de gestión de las entidades públicas para conseguir sus objetivos, apoyándose en las ideas básicas provenientes de las ciencias de gestión, reagrupadas y readaptadas en el ámbito público bajo la denominación de New Public Management (NPM) o Nueva Gestión Pública. Esta publicación examina una amplia variedad de temas que va desde las aportaciones del marketing público a las nuevas técnicas en la mejora de la provisión de servicios, pasando por sugerentes e innovadoras ideas en la gestión del personal al servicio del Estado. La preocupación fundamental es identificar tanto la utilidad como las limitaciones de las técnicas y los conceptos provenientes de la gestión, sin pretender constituirse en una reflexión crítica de lo que ha sido su aplicación a la realidad de los diversos países de la región.
