Abstract

Con un particular enfoque, este libro esboza el actual panorama económico y social de América Latina y el Caribe y sus desafíos para el futuro. Luis Alberto Moreno, Presidente del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) y autor de estas páginas, destaca las fortalezas de la región en un entorno externo favorable, sus mejoras sociales y el progreso de sus instituciones. Hace referencia también al largo camino que falta recorrer y a los riesgos de que, a pesar de las buenas perspectivas, las cosas no salgan como se espera si no se adoptan políticas públicas adecuadas, si se olvidan las lecciones del pasado y no se reconocen los obstáculos que impiden que el progreso con equidad llegue más rápido.
