El conocimiento científico como referente político en el siglo XXI

Abstract

En la sociedad actual, la gestión pública requiere una toma de decisiones asentada en sólidos fundamentos científicos. El catálogo de cuestiones abiertas, en las que la evidencia proporcionada por los avances del conocimiento debe ser el punto de partida para un abordaje acorde con las posibilidades científico-técnicas del momento, es muy amplio, incluyendo asuntos como la protección de la biodiversidad, el manejo de emergencias ecológicas o alimentarias, la consideración del ser humano en el contexto de la investigación biomédica, la protección del consumidor y la selección de prioridades para la investigación. Con el deseo de sistematizar las bases de las referencias científicas para la gestión pública, el libro -fruto de una iniciativa conjunta de la Fundación General de la Universidad Complutense y la Fundación BBVA- recoge la opinión de científicos, gestores de investigación, responsables políticos y del ámbito de la comunicación, cuya reciente experiencia les cualifica para aportar los elementos fundamentales de un debate de gran importancia para la sociedad actual. Por la relevancia del tema y la diversidad de enfoques que recoge, esta obra resulta de interés para científicos, políticos y un público general interesado en la incorporación del conocimiento científico en decisiones que conciernen al conjunto de la sociedad.
