Abstract

Esta obra tiene por objetivo contribuir a la divulgación de la tradición histórica de la ciudad de Bilbao. A través de un relato cronológico, ofrece un panorama ameno y riguroso de la evolución de la metrópoli desde 1300, fecha del documento que consigna el nacimiento de la villa del Señorío de Vizcaya, hasta la actualidad. Desde la perspectiva de Bilbao, este libro da cuenta de las transformaciones experimentadas por la sociedad vasca y por el conjunto de la sociedad española durante los periodos clave de su historia, incluyendo la Revolución Industrial, la República y la Guerra Civil, el franquismo y la transición. Bilbao a través de su historia es el resultado de un ciclo de conferencias sobre la historia de la villa organizadas por el Excelentísimo Ayuntamiento de Bilbao y la Fundación BBVA con motivo del 700 aniversario de la fundación de la ciudad. La presente obra, que cuenta con la aportación de destacados especialistas en el tema, resultará de utilidad tanto a investigadores como a un público general interesado en la historia de la ciudad.
