Abstract

Esta obra recoge uno de los ciclos de Conferencias Magistrales que, organizado por la Fundación BBVA, impartió el profesor Francisco Pérez. En sus ponencias, el autor analiza las causas y consecuencias de los grandes cambios económicos y sociales producidos en España durante la segunda mitad del siglo pasado, así como las expectativas de progreso material que nos ofrecen los primeros años del presente. A diferencia de otras monografías publicadas sobre el tema, el desarrollo económico español se estudia en estas lecciones desde una perspectiva de largo plazo, lo que ayuda a comprender la importancia que representan para las grandes transformaciones los pequeños cambios acumulados a lo largo del tiempo. Del mismo modo, este enfoque permite identificar la variedad de circunstancias que han debido darse y la amplitud de factores que han contribuido a que la actual sociedad española viva una etapa de progreso y prosperidad sin precedentes. El claro análisis del autor, apoyado en una abundante información estadística y libre de tecnicismos, facilita la comprensión de algunos problemas que aún hoy siguen sin resolver y advierte de los posibles riesgos a evitar, aconsejando determinados pasos a fin de asegurar la continuidad del progreso en España.
