Productividad: una perspectiva internacional y sectorial

Abstract

La presente publicación analiza con detalle los perfiles seguidos por la productividad del trabajo a lo largo del periodo 1970-2005 en cada uno de los países pertenecientes a la UE-25, Australia, Corea del Sur, Estados Unidos y Japón. El punto de partida son los resultados proporcionados por el proyecto EU KLEMS, del Sexto Programa Marco de la Unión Europea, en el que han participado diecisiete institutos de investigación. El Ivie, con la colaboración de la Fundación BBVA, ha sido el representante de España en el proyecto. El rasgo distintivo del proyecto EU KLEMS es su elevado nivel de desagregación, tanto en lo que se refiere a los sectores productivos como a las características propias de los trabajadores, o a la tipología de los bienes de capital. La principal conclusión de este libro es que han sido algunos sectores de servicios, y no tanto de las ramas industriales, los responsables del mediocre comportamiento de la productividad en algunos países de la UE, en especial España. El trabajo también destaca la importancia de la especialización en sectores productores de bienes con elevado contenido tecnológico, así como de la penetración de las nuevas tecnologías en los procesos productivos y el grado de cualificación de la fuerza de trabajo. Esta nueva publicación pone a disposición de los estudiosos y de la sociedad en general un potente elemento de análisis que permite identificar los problemas de productividad a los que se ha enfrentado la economía española en un contexto internacional.
