Abstract

Esta obra de PIERANGELO CATALANO constituye un aporte muy importante para el desarrollo de investigaciones interdisciplinarias que resultarán de suma utilidad para la comprensión del constitucionalismo latinoamericano. El autor propone un trabajo conjunto de juristas e historiadores para analizar la continuidad o discontinuidad de conceptos, cuyo origen se encuentra en el derecho público romano y nutren la tradición del pensamiento democrático. Estos conceptos jurídicos fueron utilizados en América Latina, especialmente durante los procesos de emancipación y diseño de instituciones políticas propias, aunque ahora sean ?conceptos olvidados? o mal comprendidos, como si se siguieran empleando los términos que los identifican, pero desprovistos de su valor político y su significado en la dinámica de la democracia. No menos importante es el aporte de esta obra a la identificación del derecho latinoamericano como sistema, con características bien definidas, dentro del más amplio sistema jurídico romanista.
