Bojayá: entre el miedo y los medios

Abstract

El día en que en la iglesia de Bojayá las FARC hicieron estallar una pipeta de gas que mató a 119 civiles y dejó heridas a otras 90, ese municipio en la ribera del Atrato dejó de ser un desconocido pueblo de la geografía colombiana. Los ojos de la comunidad nacional e internacional se volcaron allí. La masacre se convirtió en símbolo de la lucha que en silencio soportan los habitantes de la “periferia” de nuestro país, y la escalofriante cifra de víctimas sustentó la noticia que recorrió el planeta y ratificó a Colombia como uno de los sitios más violentos. Según la Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) este es el lugar más peligroso para ejercer el periodismo en el mundo. El título lo ratifican 122 periodistas asesinados en los últimos 15 años y un sinnúmero de agresiones que van desde la censura hasta el secuestro y el exilio. En el 2002, por lo menos 111, periodistas fueron víctimas de alguna violación a sus derechos.
