Abstract

Aunque con claroscuros y matices, en lo que va transcurrido de este siglo, las tendencias del desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe exhiben una notable recuperación de las tasas de crecimiento económico, significativos descensos de las tasas de pobreza e indigencia y moderados avances en la reducción de la desigualdad en sus variadas dimensiones. Este acontecer se vincula con el renacimiento del interés público por plantear y propiciar condiciones de desarrollo de largo plazo. No ha sido fácil construir estabilidad macroeconómica con resultados sociales positivos. Esa convicción parece ser la base de esta novedosa búsqueda por cimentar el desarrollo sostenible en América Latina y el Caribe, empeño en que la prospectiva podría ser un fiel y eficaz aliado. El propósito de esta publicación es animar el debate y realzar la importancia de avanzar en la construcción de un futuro para América Latina y el Caribe, desde la función pública, con la igualdad en el centro de su reflexión y de su acción.
