Abstract

O Acordo Regional sobre Acesso à Informação, Participação Pública e Acesso à Justiça em Assuntos Ambientais na América Latina e no Caribe, adotado em Escazú (Costa Rica) em 4 de março de 2018 e negociado pelos Estados com a participação significativa da sociedade civil e do público em geral, confirma o valor da dimensão regional do multilateralismo para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Este tratado tem por objetivo lutar contra a desigualdade e a discriminação e garantir os direitos de todas as pessoas a um meio ambiente saudável e ao desenvolvimento sustentável, dedicando especial atenção às pessoas e grupos em situação de vulnerabilidade e colocando a igualdade no centro do desenvolvimento sustentável. Celebro a adoção do primeiro tratado concluído sob os auspícios desta comissão regional e felicito todas as pessoas que o tornaram possível. Agora cabe aos países da América Latina e do Caribe levá-lo à prática, em benefício das gerações atuais e vindouras. Documento atualizado, 21 de junho de 2023.
