Abstract

El presente libro surge de las reflexiones de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL), realizadas con ocasión de su trigésimo cuarto período de sesiones celebrado en San Salvador del 27 al 31 de agosto de 2012, sobre los retos que enfrenta el desarrollo de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana. En él se mantiene el marco analítico que la CEPAL propuso en el documento Cambio estructural para la igualdad: una visión integrada del desarrollo, donde se sostiene que para lograr un desarrollo con igualdad en la región es necesario transformar profundamente su estructura económica. A la vez, la CEPAL ratifica con esta obra su compromiso de realizar con regularidad un estudio exhaustivo de las tendencias de largo plazo en la pauta de desarrollo de la subregión, siendo el antecedente más significativo el documento “Centroamérica: el camino de los noventa” publicado en 1993 por la sede subregional de la CEPAL en México.
