Abstract

La crisis sanitaria generada por la pandemia de enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) ha acelerado el proceso de digitalización de la sociedad: avances que se preveía demorarían años en concretarse, se han producido en pocos meses. Las tecnologías digitales han sido esenciales para el funcionamiento de la economía y la sociedad durante la emergencia. Puede decirse que estamos frente a un verdadero cambio cultural, pues esta tendencia incide en todos los ámbitos y sectores sociales. Los países de la región han adoptado medidas para impulsar el uso de soluciones tecnológicas y cautelar la continuidad de los servicios de telecomunicaciones. Sin embargo, el alcance de esas acciones ha estado limitado por diversas brechas digitales, muy restrictivas en el mundo de la agricultura y la ruralidad. Estas innovaciones incluyen todos los eslabones del sistema alimentario. Para analizar ese proceso, en este trabajo se identifican los cambios y avances en curso en nueve países de la región, con especial énfasis en las políticas públicas y la inclusión de los pequeños agricultores. Con ello se busca proponer nuevas ideas para promover un proceso de digitalización que ayude a acelerar una transición hacia un sistema alimentario más inclusivo y sostenible.
