Engagement de Santiago: Un instrument régional pour répondre à la crise liée à la COVID-19 dans le cadre de l’égalité de genre

Abstract

Dans le contexte contemporain de crises multiples résultant de la pandémie de coronavirus (COVID-19), l’Engagement de Santiago1, adopté par les États membres de la Commission économique pour l’Amérique latine et les Caraïbes (CEPALC) lors de la XIVe Conférence régionale sur les femmes d’Amérique latine et des Caraïbes en 20202, revêt une importance particulière en tant qu’outil régional conçu pour s’attaquer aux causes structurelles de l’inégalité entre hommes et femmes et promouvoir des politiques visant à répondre à la pandémie à court, moyen et long terme. Dans l’Engagement de Santiago, les gouvernements de la région ont convenu de mettre en oeuvre des politiques anticycliques qui tiennent compte des inégalités entre les sexes afin d’atténuer les effets des crises économiques et des récessions sur la vie des femmes, et ont réaffirmé la nécessité d’accélérer la mise en oeuvre de la Déclaration et du Programme d’action de Beijing ainsi que de l’Agenda régional pour l’égalité des sexes en adoptant de nouveaux engagements sur des questions innovantes et pionnières.
