Abstract

Esta obra fue escrita en 1980 y publicada en 1987 bajo los auspicios de la Con¬traloría General de la República. En esta ocasión se publica con el patrocinio del Banco de la República. Salomón Kalmanovitz, quien fuera miembro de su Junta Directiva, generosamente solicitó al gerente general de entonces, Mi¬guel Urrutia, y a las autoridades encargadas de las publicaciones, la reedición del libro. A todos ellos mis sentimientos de gratitud. En el último cuarto de siglo la historia monetaria de Colombia ha encon¬trado cultores entre las nuevas generaciones de investigadores. El libro in¬titulado El Banco de la República: antecedentes, evolución y estructura, salido a la luz pública en 1989 es, entre muchos, un ejemplo del creciente interés por la investigación monetaria en el país. La reedición de la obra aspira a convertirse en un nuevo estímulo para quie¬nes opten por dedicar su vocación investigadora al estudio de las instituciones monetarias colombianas.
